Let’s talk about a truly unique sea animal we can offer you at Fiskano: the Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis). The cuttlefish belongs to the class of Cephalopoda, just like squids and octopuses. The common cuttlefish are found in the Mediterranean Sea, the North Sea, and the Baltic sea.
Cuttlefish hunt the seas for crabs, shrimps, and small fish. They hunt using their camouflage, tentacles, and beak. The name of the fish is related to its ink, sepia. The ink is believed to have many health benefits like anti-inflammation, anti-oxidant activity, antimicrobial, and many other benefits. It is also important to note that the ink has a great taste and can be used as a dye for writing, drawing, and painting.
Cuttlefish are eaten all over the world and many splendid dishes are prepared with it. Dried cuttlefish are eaten as a snack in East Asia, are being breaded and deep-fried in Andalusia, and are used in many popular Portuguese dishes. It’s also a great Tapas ingredient, as shown in the famous Arròs negre dish. Other famous dishes containing cuttlefish are risotto al nero di seppia and Chocos com tinta. It’s therefor a great product for a wide range of restaurants and retailers.
